FAdecco Bio- Crop

FADECO Bio-Crops Ltd is a flagship initiative under the Family Alliance for Development and Cooperation (FADECO), dedicated to advancing sustainable and climate-smart agriculture in the Kagera Region. The program empowers smallholder farmers particularly youth and women with knowledge, skills, and tools to improve productivity, enhance food security, and reduce post-harvest losses. Through activities such as soil conservation and composting, agroforestry and organic farming, post-harvest innovations like solar drying and biogas, digital market access via platforms like the Mkulima+ App, and hands-on farmer training and mentorship, the initiative builds capacity, fosters leadership, and promotes sustainable agricultural practices. By integrating technology, education, and innovative farming methods, FADECO Bio-Crops Ltd cultivates a resilient, inclusive, and environmentally conscious agricultural ecosystem across the Kagera Region.

Eden Centre for Appropriate Technology

The Eden Centre for Appropriate Technology, an entity of FADECO NGO, was established in 2007 to promote appropriate rural technologies, ICT innovation, and land rehabilitation in Karagwe. The Centre empowers youth, students, and community members with internet connectivity, digital tools, and information resources, while providing training, mentorship, and innovation spaces to foster technology-based solutions. Equipped with school ICT hubs, innovation labs, and access to digital market platforms, the Centre enhances digital literacy, community awareness, and sustainable development knowledge, enabling farmers and local enterprises to access information, improve livelihoods, and adopt climate-smart practices. Through this initiative, the Eden Centre fosters innovative, technology-driven, and resilient communities across the Kagera Region.

Fadeco Innovation Hub

The FADECO Innovation Hub, formerly the Nyakasimbi Community Maarifa Centre, is a FADECO initiative that serves as a dynamic information and communications hub for communities in the Kagera Region. Established in 2011 through a partnership with Renewable World (UK) and the Arid Lands Information Network (ALIN, Kenya), the Hub provides free access to digital tools, knowledge resources, and ICT training, empowering youth, agriculture students, and community members to document local knowledge, develop innovative solutions, and engage in sustainable development. Equipped with VSAT Internet, computers for training and research, a library, multimedia resources, and a solar-wind hybrid energy system, the Hub fosters digital literacy, green energy awareness, and community empowerment, creating a platform where technology and innovation drive resilient and informed communities.

FADECO Community Radio (FRC 100.8 FM)

FADECO Community Radio (FRC 100.8 FM), launched by the Family Alliance for Development and Cooperation (FADECO) in 2007, is a community-based radio station serving Karagwe District and the broader Kagera Region, with reach into neighboring Uganda and Rwanda. The station’s mission is to stimulate rural development and amplify the voices of marginalized communities, including women, youth, the poor, and people living with HIV/AIDS, by providing access to information, learning resources, and communication technologies. FRC 100.8 FM delivers diverse programming covering agriculture, education, health, governance, human rights, culture, science, and entertainment, while fostering community engagement through fan clubs, live phone-ins, text-ins, and panel discussions. Operating as a multimedia tele-centre, the station integrates radio broadcasting with digital platforms and partnerships with organizations like BBC Swahili Service, Deutsche Welle, Farm Radio International, and the Commonwealth of Learning to enhance content and knowledge exchange. Despite technical and staffing challenges, FRC 100.8 FM continues to empower communities, promote sustainable development, and serve as a platform for local voices, reaching an estimated audience of over 1.5 million across four districts of Kagera and beyond.
